ACE Handbook

Mirrored Course Information Learning for Living Academy (LLA) What is a mirrored course? A mirrored course is an Adult & Continuing Education (ACE) course which meets at the same time and place as an existing college credit course. Participation in a mirrored course is based on space available in the class. ACE students enrolled in mirrored courses earn CEU’s, not college credit. What is the advantage? The advantage of a mirrored course is that you do not have to go through the college admissions process. Students taking mirrored courses are not required to take the college entrance TSI Assessment (Texas Success Initiative). What is expected? Students must abide by all rules as published in the TVCC catalog. Students are expected to meet the instructors’ expectations outlined in the course syllabus. Course syllabi are available for review at www.tvcc.edu . What is the cost for a mirrored course? The cost is the same as the cost of the credit course and is calculated with in-district tuition and fees. Adults 60 years of age or older who live in the TVCC tax district can purchase a TVCC GOLD Card. A benefit of the GOLD Card is a reduction in the course cost. For more information about the GOLD Card program, please email conted@tvcc.edu or call 903-675-6212. Can a mirrored course articulate to credit? The ACE mirrored course must be offered as both credit and non-credit following THECB and WECM guidelines. The mirrored course must meet the same rigor, evaluation process, and faculty guidelines as the credit course. ACE students must demonstrate that they have met the same competencies as the successful credit student. Important – If an ACE student is completing a mirrored course as part of a grant program, the student must complete the requirements set forth in the grant before articulation can be considered. Is there a cost to articulate a mirrored course to credit? Yes. A fee is charged per course. Contact the Assistant Vice President of Instruction for details. How do I register for a mirrored course? For registration, payment, or general questions, please contact TVCC’s Adult & Continuing Education department either by email ContEd@tvcc.edu or by phone 903-675-6212.
